In July of 2021, in partnership with the Illinois Facilities Fund, several organizations across the city were named Chicago Cultural Treasures and awarded over $14.4 million in funding in the name of preserving organizations whose mission is to enable the creation, preservation, and dissemination of art stemming from BIPOC traditions, leadership, and culture.
We spent time listening to the stories of some of these Chicago cultural treasures. They share their history, their journey through adversity and their triumphs. With these mini docs, we hope celebrate the beautiful and necessary impact of arts programming in Chicago.
